Disappearing Acts (2019) was produced for Than Hussein Clark’s exhibition “L’isola dei Baci (Disappearing Acts)” at Kura, Milan, and originally shown on a display of 4 Hantarex monitors. The film edit alternates super-8 shots from Sri Lanka and a sequence shot in which a group of actors improvise for thirty five minutes a dialogue based on the play The Lower Depths (1901) by Maxim Gorky, a Russian writer and screenwriter from the late 1800s, father of socialist realism (a movement born in Russia in 1934) and known for his extreme and homophobic political positions.
